Stanley Starlights - Majorette Dance Troupe

Written by ann@all4danceanddrama

Family Orientated Troupe!

Troupe now teaching 2nd generation Children

When Donna Richardson formed her troupe Stanley Starlights over 16 years ago, little did she realise that it would prove so popular and that her girls would go on to bring their own children to join.  The troupe was formed whilst Donna's own daughter Becki was going through her 'teenage stage' when there was nothing much to do in the area.

Stanley Starlights based in Wakefield, West Yorkshire are members of the newly formed Great Britain Baton Twirling Association run by Albert Orme and will be competing in the associations inaugural Classic Championships event on 17th November at Ponds Forge, Sheffield.

Twinkle Section firm favourites

The Troupes youngest member is 8yrs old, but Donna encourages children from the age of 2 1/2 yrs... the earlier the better to master baton twirling and poms. The Twinkle Section is always a great favourite at all Starlight performances. After that they go on to Midi, Junior and Senior Sections with each phase getting progressively more difficult both with equipment and movement. The girls are encouraged to come up with new ideas and routines themselves. They have helped to achieve brilliant displays.

UK & North Awards

At the end of January 2007 Stanley Starlights won two top awards being named Troupe of the Year (UK & North) and their Trainer Becki won Trainer of the Year (UK & North).

This year on the 31st of March The Stanley Starlights Girls entered an Individual Competition where they danced as individuals, not as a troupe, giving them each a chance to showcase their own talents. They won ten awards in various sections and in the Junior Ribbon Duo Section took 1st, 2nd and 3rd places.

Stanley Starlights Calendar of Events

The Stanley Starlights have a very full calendar each year comprising displays, competitions, parades and are much involved with local voluntary work teaching after school classes to schoolchildren. After which they can perform a display at their school gala.

Starlight Majorettes Run by volunteers

Their staff base is made up of a broad spectrum of volunteers, many from the healthcare field, who donate their time each week, plus the trainers and assistants, Becki, Lynne, Katie and Cheryl, many of whom were Starlight Majorettes themselves.
