Prepare to be entertained with X-Factor later this year.
As summer approaches we get even closer to this years X-Factor, as week by week the contestants are whittled down until the winner is revealed. The prize is a £1 million recording contract and they also get their shot at the number one place in the UK Christmas singles chart. This year’s program looks to be the biggest yet with the shows team extending the confirmation deadlines to mid June for those who auditioned after more people than ever before auditioned.
Created and owned by Simco, the production company of Simon Cowell and produced by FremantleMedia’s talkback THAMES and SYCOtv also under the rule of Cowell, the show was put together to replace Pop Idol which ended in 2003.
The competition hosted by Dermot O'Leary, sees auditionees who can and can’t sing battle their way through the audition process, boot camp, judges homes and ultimately the live TV shows all in front of the judges; Simon Cowell, Louis Walsh, Dannii Minogue and newest recruit Girls Aloud'sCheryl Cole who began her career on similar show Popstars The Rivals in 2002. Each of the mentors tutor one of the categories whether it be the boys, girls, over 25’s or the groups and each week the general public vote out our least favourite contestant until the winner is revealed.
The show has made household names of contestants such as Leona Lewis, Leon Jackson, Shayne Ward and last years winner Alexandra Burke who have all reached the Xmas number one spot after winning the show. Leona Lewis, the most successful of the bunch has already had three number one singles and a number one album since winning the show in 2006.
